The remake of I Spit On Your Grave has got a new trailer, this one trying to pander to the female horror movie lover demographic by proclaiming its release day to be “Day of the Woman,” which totally slays me. I mean, I understand that the filmmakers have justified the female protagonist’s sadistic acts of revenge by having the film begin with her being brutally gang raped, but does that really mean her eye-for-an-eye response is warranted? What sort of feminist message is this film spreading? Or is it feminist at all? A similar, albeit more mature, question was posed in the 2007 Jodie Foster film The Brave One, but at least that film didn’t have the audacity to declare its release day to be “Day of the Woman”!
