M. Night Shyamalan Recycling Ideas He Had For Unbreakable 2

FirstShowing reported recently that our old pal M. Night Shyamalan is dashing his fans’ hopes for Unbreakable 2 by using the villain he had planned for the sequel in his third instalment of The Night Chronicles, the first film being Devil (no word on the second film yet). Shyamalan had the following to say:

It was such a cool idea for a villain, and it was actually originally in the script for ‘Unbreakable,’ and it was too much. There were too many villains, so I pulled this villain out and was like, ‘I’ll make this the second flick.’ I fleshed it out more and more, and thought, ‘This could be a standalone movie.’ I’ll just say it: the third ‘Night Chronicles’ movie is what would have been the sequel [to ‘Unbreakable’].

Not only that, but Shyamalan also says that “Literally, that’s the question I get asked the most anywhere around the world — if I’m making the sequel to Unbreakable.” So essentially, good ol’ M. Night has decided not to award his die hard fans, who have slogged through numerous godawful movies because they believe he still has a good film in him, and instead plans on forcing them to go see a movie that isn’t Unbreakable 2 just so they can get a taste of what might have been. Now that the preview for Devil has literally become a worldwide laughingstock, simply because of Shyamalan’s involvement, does anyone honestly plan on seeing the third part of his unofficial trilogy? Does Shyamalan live in a bubble where he doesn’t realize the laugh riot his name has become? Unbreakable 2 would have been a terrific move for him right now, because not only would it continue one of his better stories, but it would remind people that once upon a time he was actually a highly respected filmmaker. But I guess that just isn’t in the cards. Will you be seeing The Night Chronicles, Vol. 3: The Unofficial Unbreakable Sort-of Sequel?
