A few months ago, I did a “Before They Were Stars” on Jason Reitman and his brief role as a kid in his father’s film, Kindergarten Cop. Well, now it’s Odette Yustman’s turn. Odette Yustman has come to prominence in recent years for her lead roles in such films as Cloverfield and The Unborn, but it all started with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Who is your daddy and what does he do?”. Odette was only five years old when she was cast as one of the kindergarten students and while most of her role pretty much just involved her being a background extra, her big moment came in the infamous “who is your daddy?” scene. You can see her at the 4:55 mark of this clip as the girl who describes what her daddy does in Spanish.
While we’re on the subject of Kindergarten Cop, I just had a weird realization: remember the lead actress from that film, Penelope Ann Miller? She had a lot of big roles in Hollywood movies in the early nineties, but she’s pretty much faded into obscurity in recent years. However, I think I know reason for that: she simply changed her name to Naomi Watts! Seriously, look at the resemblance between the two of them!
