The opening sequence of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, which details various bizarre real-life incidents involving coincidence and chance, is one of my favourite beginnings to a film ever, and as a bonus, it even contains a “Before They Were Stars” moment. At the 1:28 mark of this clip, you’ll see a then-unknown Patton Oswalt playing the role of Delmer Darion, a scuba diver who suffers one of the weirdest deaths of all time when a firefighting plane inadvertently scoops him out of the water and drops him onto a forest fire!
