Celebrity Birthday of the Day – July 18

Hunter S. Thompson was an American journalist and author whose best known works include Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, and Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail, 1972. Besides being known as an author and journalist, Thompson was also renowned (some might say infamous) for his unrepentent drug use and love of alcohol, his adoration of firearms and explosions, and his complete disrespect for authority figures – most famously Richard Nixon. He holds the distinction of having been played by both Johnny Depp and Bill Murray, being immortalized as a caricature in Gary Trudeau’s comic strip Doonesbury (which Thompson hated, and is quoted as saying that if he ever met Trudeau, he would set him on fire), and having his cremated remains fired out of a 153-foot cannon of his own design. Thompson is a cultural icon, and his legacy will never die.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.
