Before They Were Stars: Robert Englund on “Soap”

My boss recently lent me his DVD set of the 1970s sitcom, Soap, a hugely controversial series that parodied soap operas and was way ahead of its time for covering subjects that were pretty taboo for a network TV sitcom at that time, such as homosexuality, racism, impotence, and murder. Anyway, the series just got wackier as it went along, introducing stuff like aliens and a demonically possessed baby into the plot, and the fact that this clip features a bunch of guys in blackface makeup rescuing a teenage boy from a new age cult pretty much says it all. It even features an appearance by the future Freddy Krueger, as at the 1:25 mark, you’ll see a Robert Englund as a cult member with a machine gun.
