Before They Were Stars: 17-Year Old Alanis Morrisette Intros YTV’s “Hit List”

The Back Row is a Canadian website, so of course, we all grew up experiencing the early days of Canada’s iconic channel, YTV. In 1991, YTV premiered its own music video program called Hit List, which was hosted by a radio announcer named Tarzan Dan and ran for 14 years. This early episode of Hit List is interesting in that it is introduced by 17-year old Alanis Morrissette in what is likely one of her earliest television appearances. 1991 was the year in which she released her debut album, “Alanis”, which got an exclusive Canadian release at first and received mixed reviews, but wound up becoming a surprise hit. So this is some early exposure for Alanis before she achieved worldwide stardom.
