Before They Were Stars: David Prowse as Frankenstein’s Monster in “Casino Royale”

As you well know, the Star Wars and James Bond franchises each have a big film playing in cinemas this year, but here’s an unlikely connection between the two universes. Ten years before he was Darth Vader, David Prowse made his uncredited screen debut in the 1967 comedy spoof, Casino Royale, sharing screen time with David Niven as Frankenstein’s monster. And if you’re wondering what Frankenstein’s monster has to do with James Bond, all you have to know is that nothing that happens in the 1967 version of Casino Royale has any context or makes any fuckin’ sense whatsoever! And in you case didn’t know, Prowse ended up playing the monster again in a straightforward Frankenstein film, Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell. Yes, that is Peter Cushing in the film, so Grand Moff Tarkin and Darth Vader played Frankenstein and his monster three years before Star Wars!
