Before They Were Stars: Alan Rickman on “Girls on Top”

As if the death of David Bowie didn’t make this week shitty enough, we were all devastated to learn that Alan Rickman also passed away of cancer. Before he crossed over to Hollywood and Die Hard made him a star, Rickman was known for being a renowned stage actor in Britain, though he did do the odd gig on television. One of them was a guest appearance on the pilot episode of the sitcom, Girls on Top, which aired in the mid-1980s and featured early work from such prominent female British comedy figures as Tracey Ullman and Jennifer Saunders. Rickman played a con artist and his wardrobe here just screams “mid-1980s douchebag”. His talents will be greatly missed.
