Before They Were Stars: Jennifer Jason Leigh in “Wrong is Right”

It’s time once again to do the traditional round of “Before They Were Stars” clips for this year’s Academy Award nominees. In spite of a very distinguished career, Jennifer Jason Leigh has garnered her very first Academy Award nomination for her memorable portrayal of Daisy Domergue in The Hateful Eight, which once again demonstrates the magic that can occur when Quentin Tarantino gives you your dream role. Anyway, right before her breakthrough role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the 19-year old Leigh got to share the screen with Sean Connery by playing a bit part in the 1982 dark satirical comedy, Wrong is Right. The film takes place in a nightmarish future where violence on television is an expected occurrence, so much so that Leigh flat-out admits that she’s planning to poison her parents while being interviewed by Connery’s reporter character. Wrong is Right isn’t a very well-known film, but it has a bit of a cult reputation for being a couple of decades ahead of its time. That said, I don’t think you’ll find an actor who makes a less convincing reporter than Sean Connery.
