Before They Were Stars: Eddie Redmayne as Matt Damon’s Son in “The Good Shepherd”

It’s time once again to do the traditional round of “Before They Were Stars” clips for this year’s Academy Award nominees. For the second straight year, Eddie Redmayne has been nominated for an Oscar for his performance in The Danish Girl. I haven’t seen the film yet and I’m sure Redmayne delivers a very good performance, but if he steals the “Best Actor” award from Leonardo DiCaprio this year, I will probably freak! The Back Row is still bitter over Redmayne winning “Best Actor” last year instead of Michael Keaton, particularly since it came on the heels of Redmayne’s laughably bad Razzie-nominated performance in Jupiter Ascending. Looking at Redmayne’s filmography, I was surprised to discover that one of his earliest film roles was in The Good Shepherd when he played the son of one of his fellow “Best Actor” nominees this year, Matt Damon. Of course, the idea of Eddie Redmayne playing Matt Damon’s son seems awfully silly, considering that Damon is only 11 years older than him. To be fair, Redmayne only appears in scenes where Damon’s character is supposed to be much older, but come on, when you see the two actors together, they both still look young enough to be brothers!
