If you listen to our podcast (which you should), you know that we have a segment called the “Batshit Crazy Movie of the Year Countdown” where we count down the days until the release of what we think might be the most insane movie of any given year. Right now we’re counting down the days until the release of Elvis & Nixon, a movie starring Michael Shannon as Elvis, Kevin Spacey as Nixon, and released by Amazon Studios. Colour me intrigued! I don’t know if this will be the most batshit movie of the year, although it does look pretty wacky what with Elvis insisting on becoming a secret agent and pushing all of Nixon’s buttons in the process, but I do think that it will probably be an actual, genuinely enjoyable film. Michael Shannon as later-career martial-arts-steel-claw, gun-toting Elvis? Yes, please!
