Before They Were Stars: Garry Shandling Performs Stand-Up on “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert”

Legendary comedian Garry Shandling unexpectedly passed away yesterday at the age of 66. Shandling started out his career in the 1970s by writing scripts for such popular sitcoms as Sanford and Son and Welcome Back, Kotter before crossing over into stand-up comedy. The preceding clip may be Shandling’s first stand-up performance on television as he appeared on the variety show, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, in 1979.
