Calvin & Hobbes: Art Before Commerce

As a lifelong Calvin and Hobbes fan, I have struggled more than once with coming to terms with Bill Watterson’s ethic. I adore Calvin and Hobbes, and to me one of the greatest tragedies in all of comics is the fact that Watterson never really did anything else. He showed up, created the best comic in history, and then…just stopped. I don’t think he should betray his desire to put his art over merchandising and money, I guess I’m just surprised that he never did another strip. Or even just put out a few art books. Anyway, this video is an appropriate tribute to Watterson’s work. Sigh…time to get out my Calvin and Hobbes books again.
