This is a preview for the new Tony Scott movie Unstoppable, starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson. It’s a movie about an unstoppable train towing explosive chemicals that’s in danger of crashing into another train full of school children. Yep. It looks cheesy but undeniably fun, and I’m sure I’ll wind up watching it at some point, because I actually really love Tony Scott movies. Not because they’re always excellent pieces of cinema – often they’re just mindless, silly action films that don’t make sense half the time – but because they’re so similar in appearence and content that I get a big kick out of imagining that they’re all parts of one giant movie. I mean, take a look at the past few films that Tony Scott has made. The Taking of Pelham 123, Deja Vu, Man on Fire…they all feature Scott’s trademark high-contrast colour palette, action and explosions galore, and Denzel Washington. Unstoppable is no exception to any of these things, and that’s what makes it great. I’m totally going to watch Unstoppable imagining that Denzel’s character from Man on Fire is just having a really crappy year. First he has to protect Dakota Fanning, then he has to go back in time to stop a boat from exploding, then he gets a job as a subway dispatcher and has to negotiate his way through a hostage situation…and after that, he quits working for the subway and gets a job at a trainyard instead. But oh no! There’s an unstoppable train on the loose! I can’t wait.
Click the jump to see previews of The Taking of Pelham 123, Deja Vu and Man on Fire, and tell me they don’t look remarkably similar. I mean heck, Denzel even grows a beard over the course of the trailers.
