Not too long ago, Paramount pictures opted not to pursue sequel plans for the comedy hit that made Judd Apatow and company famous, namely Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. This was a big letdown for fans of the original (including me), because while I believe that Apatow and the gang have only gotten better since Anchorman, Anchorman is still a hilariously funny film. Well, good news, fans! Paramount has heard your cries of dismay and may actually start work on an Anchorman sequel after all! Recently director Adam McKay spoke to Collider about the sequels potential revival:
[The fan outcry] made a difference. Paramount heard it. Adam Goodman, the President of Paramount, was on the first one so he loves it and when that outcry came, he was kind of excited because he knew it could maybe push it towards happening. That having been said, I’m clearly going into it like another movie so if it does happen it’s still two years away or a ways away. And I haven’t talked to anyone. There’s nothing happening right now but it helped, it helped.
I love that, more and more, studios are listening to what the fans want. It got us Serenity, it got Family Guy and Futurama brought back from the dead, and now it might bring us an Anchorman sequel! We win!
