This is all speculation at this point, so don’t start writing your Warner Bros. hate mail just yet. Website Hollywood in Hi-Def is reporting that Warner Bros. is considering converting Inception to 3D for a second theatrical run. No biggie, I guess, but I do think that such a conversion and rerelease would be entirely pointless. The bigger news is that the Hollywood in Hi-Def article ends with the rather ominous line:
Prevailing opinions at Warner are that Nolan will not enjoy the luxury of taking a pass on 3D for the new Batman movie, which will surely be set up for 3D from the beginning.
Whoa whoa whoa. Hang on a second here. Christopher Nolan makes awesome movies. Of the 9 movies he has directed so far, 5 of them are on IMDb’s top 250 movies of all time list. 2 of them are in the top 11. Inception was one of the top-grossing films of the year, and it was in direct competition with 3D movies. Not to mention the fact that all of Nolan’s brilliance has emerged just within the last decade! This is one incredibly talented guy we’re talking about, and suddenly Warner Bros. has the gall to tell him how to make movies? This is the man who single-handedly SAVED the Batman franchise from Joel Schumacher and his bat-nipples!
Pretend for a second that I’m Warner Bros., this gun is the decision to force Christopher Nolan to make Batman 3 in 3D, and my foot is a representation of what the viewing public actually wants.
*BLAM!*
