I don’t usually cover movie posters on the Back Row, in part because I find myself rather unimpressed with many of them. Take, for example, the poster for Clint Eastwood’s next film Hereafter. While I think Eastwood is a terrific filmmaker, I find the Hereafter poster pretty uninspired. But not so with this poster for the new Coen brothers film True Grit! Man is this ever cool. I love the lack of flashy graphics and the fact that it doesn’t feature giant actors’ faces staring out at you, but most of all I love that whoever came up with this design chose to let the vintage style speak for itself. And the single bloody bullet hole is a brilliant touch. I already have a place on my wall picked out for this.
