Leslie Nielsen Searches for The Undertaker

I’ve been kicking myself for neglecting to mention Leslie Nielsen’s brief affiliation with the World Wrestling Federation on our “Shouts From the Back Row” podcast tribute to him, but since I just wrote a column about the 20th anniversary of the Undertaker, it’s only appropriate that I briefly discuss it here. One of the dumber storylines of Taker’s career involved him disappearing for several months while “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase brought in an impostor whom he tried to pass off as the real Undertaker. The whole thing was almost redeemed, however, when the WWF actually got Leslie Nielsen involved in the storyline. Since Naked Gun 33 1/3 was being released at the time, they filmed a bunch of skits where Nielsen appeared in character as Frank Drebin and went searching for the real Undertaker. This is obviously not the best material Leslie Nielsen ever had to work with, but he made the most of it, and where else are you going to see Frank Drebin sharing a scene with Randy “Macho Man” Savage?
