3:10 to Yuma

An amazing western – the best I’ve seen in years, with well-drawn characters, snappy dialogue, brilliant cinematography and a kickass plot. It has everything an old west shoot ’em up should have, and is so rife with energy you forget that it’s a remake.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
While a fitting end to the trilogy, it was REALLY long, and the swashbuckling could’ve been spread through more of the movie. I loved the trippy bits in Davy Jones’ Locker, though, and Keith Richards was born to play a pirate. On its own, it’s a pretty mindless yet entertaining flick, but I highly recommend watching all three Pirates movies in a row. They work really well as a trilogy.

I Am Legend
The first hour of I Am Legend is awesome. It’s gripping, suspenseful and chilling enough to give you nightmares. Will Smith does an admirable job of holding your attention, even though it’s just him, a german shepherd and some mannequins on screen. Unfortunately, the movie goes downhill somewhere around the one-hour mark. With some better monsters and a reworking of the ending, this movie would be the next 28 Days Later.
