To celebrate Sean Astin’s birthday today, here’s some very rare footage of him before his acting career even got started. This clip is from the 1980 edition of the annual Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon. The New York version of the telethon was frequently hosted by Sean’s actor parents, John Astin and Patty Duke, and 9-year old Sean and his 6-year old brother, MacKenzie (who would go on to have an acting career himself) would make their first television appearances here. The following clip is from when the entire family returned for the 1982 edition of the telethon and this time, Sean gets to speak.
