Before They Were Stars: Robin Williams on “The Richard Pryor Show”

I’ve already covered Robin Williams twice on “Before They Were Stars” (in a phone commercial and a terrible movie called Can I Do It Till I Need Glasses?), but since it’s his 60th birthday today, I thought I’d unearth some rare footage of a dream comedy teaming of Robin Williams and Richard Pryor. Robin’s first major break in show business came in 1977 when he became a cast member on The Richard Pryor Show. This comedy variety series was quite controversial and ahead of its time and pretty much gave everyone in NBC’s Bureau of Standard and Practices a heart attack. Not surprisingly, it was cancelled after only four episodes and it’s rumoured that the cocaine dealers on the NBC backlot didn’t stop crying for weeks.
