Andy Hallett was born in Osterville, Massachusetts in 1975 and died in 2009, but in his all-too-short time on earth, he succeeded in creating one hell of a memorable and well-loved character for fans of Joss Whedon. While Hallett’s career before his teaming up with Whedon was fairly unremarkable – he was a property manager for an agency and personal assistant to Kai Cole (Joss Whedon’s wife) – after he was given the chance to audition for the part of Lorne, the demonic host of a karaoke bar on the series Angel, Hallett won the part in three auditions. His fame grew among Whedon fans, but sadly, after Angel had ended, Hallett began to suffer from health problems as the result of a dental infection. He died in 2009 at the age of 34 due to heart failure stemming from cardiomyopathy caused by his dental infection five years earlier. He may be gone, but the legacy of Lorne will live on in the hearts of Angel fans for many years to come.
