In Time is a new film from Andrew Niccols, the director behind Gattaca, S1M0Ne and Lord of War, in which time is a currency used to extend your life. Things turn sour for our hero, Will Salas when he is is falsely accused of murder. Now he must figure out a way to bring down a system where time is money – literally – enabling the wealthy to live forever while the poor, like Will, have to beg, borrow, and steal enough minutes to make it through another day.
I think this looks pretty cool, but it’s actually a bit scary, because about a decade ago I had an idea for a movie with this exact same premise – called Saving Time – and I even still have the original document where I had detailed how time would work as currency. To be fair, though, this movie looks as though it uses the idea to much greater potential than I would have. But I find it eerie nonetheless.
In Time stars Justin Timberlake, Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried, Vincent Kartheiser and Cillian Murphy, and it comes out October 28, 2011.
