John Cazale is the ultimate “That Guy”. Having appeared in many stage productions alongside the likes of Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep, Cazale too made the transition to film and quickly became well known as a top-notch character actor. Cazale’s filmography only includes five films – but every one of them was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Those films are The Godfather, The Godfather Part 2, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon and The Deer Hunter. In 1977, Cazale was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer, but he continued acting in The Deer Hunter despite his condition, and died in 1978 at the age of 42. As far as legacies go, they don’t get more impressive than that of John Cazale.
