George Carlin was one of the funniest human beings in all of history, and I was absolutely crushed when he died, since he was a big inspiration to me. Turns out, perhaps unsurprisingly, that he was a big inspiration for another one of my favourite comedians, too: Louis CK. In this clip, taken from a 2010 tribute to Carlin, held at the New York Public Library, Louis talks about how George’s work had an influence on his own, and what the world of standup comedy means to him and to us all. It’s funny and it’s bittersweet, and you should watch it right now.
