Mark my words: Charlie Cox is destined for big things! Born in London, England, Cox was trained in drama at Sherborne School in Dorset, where he played numerous roles on the stage. In 2002 he got his first television role in an episode of the series Judge John Deed, and followed it up with a significant movie role in the 2004 Michael Bradford adaptation of The Merchant of Venice starring Al Pacino. The following year he landed a supporting role in Casanova next to Heath Ledger, which gave him the career boost necessary to play the lead role in Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. Cox also starred in the British-Canadian caper comedy Stone of Destiny, which is based on the real-life theft of the Stone of Scone on Christmas Day, 1950, but not a single one of these roles compare to his awesome turn as Owen Slater in season 2 of Boardwalk Empire. As soon as I saw him throttle a guy in a bathroom, I knew that Charlie Cox is an actor to keep an eye on. He turns 29 today.
