My jaw dropped upon viewing the long-awaited trailer for Ridley Scott’s prequel to Alien, titled Prometheus. It’s been quite some time since Ridley Scott has wowed me with his filmmaking, and while I do love the Alien franchise, it’s become so watered-down over the years thanks to the pointless Predator crossovers that it seemed as though its appeal had died long ago. But this? This is good stuff. This is really good stuff. If the movie is anywhere near as good as this trailer, then we’ve got a lot of brilliant, terrifying sci-fi coming our way. Now, obviously this trailer is taking a lot of things from the trailer for Alien, but watch them side by side and tell me they don’t compliment each other perfectly.
I’m still hesitant to leap out of my seat with excitement when it comes to Prometheus, but Mr. Scott is sure doing a good job of catching my attention. And with a cast that includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, and Patrick Wilson, this seems very promising indeed.
Prometheus comes out June 8, 2012.
