Diablo, the classic top-down slash-em-up RPG video game from Blizzard that’s still incredibly popular today, recently turned 15 years old. Its sequel Diablo II was released four years later and was one of the most popular games of 2000, and, much like its predecessor, still remains popular today. But it’s pretty surprising to consider that even after twelve years, a third instalment in the Diablo franchise still hasn’t been released. Well, folks, it looks like it’s finally time, as Blizzard has moved Diablo III into the Beta testing phase and released the opening cinematic for all to see. And guess what: it looks like Diablo but with better graphics! As Blizzard proved when it released the similarly long-awaited Starcraft 2, if it ain’t broke, there’s no need to fix it.
A lot of people have been saying that Diablo III is likely to come out in February of 2012, but Blizzard doesn’t seem to have committed to a set date. I suppose after this long, they’re willing to take their time and do things right, so the resounding answer to the question of “When will Diablo III be released?” seems to be simply “When it’s ready.”
