Han Shot First, And Everyone Knows It

Continuing his trend of simultaneously declaring his insanity and proving his idiocy, George Lucas recently crapped out this bit of Star Wars trivia in an interview with THR:

The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn’t. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.

Really, George? Really? I mean, I’ve always held that Lucas’ constant retooling, recutting, and re-special-effecting of his classic and awesome sci-fi trilogy so that it would better match his stupid, bloated prequel trilogy was nothing short of bastardization, but this is…well, denial. This is George Lucas sticking his fingers in his ears and pretending that he never changed a thing to do with his films. He’s lying to himself, and you know how I know? Just watch the clip above, from the original cut of Star Wars: A New Hope. Is there really any confusion about what happened in that scene? I didn’t think so. So, on behalf of Star Wars fans everywhere, I say: shut up, George Lucas! Just…just…shut up.
