Before her Academy Award-winning performance in Misery, Kathy Bates had attained a lot success on Broadway, but struggled to find stardom in Hollywood, as she took many small supporting roles and bit parts in films and TV shows for over a decade. Right before Misery turned her into a star, Bates had a very small blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in the hilarious interrogation scene in Dick Tracy as the stenographer who makes a futile attempt to transcribe the confession from Mumbles.
