Now here’s one of cinema’s truly great character actors: Scott Wilson! Wilson’s first film role was in the classic In the Heat of the Night, and in the same year (1967), he also appeared in the film adaptation of Truman Capote’s book In Cold Blood. In 1974, Wilson appeared in The Great Gatsby opposite Robert Redford, and in 1980 he earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in William Peter Blatty’s The Ninth Configuration. Other films in which Scott Wilson appeared include The Right Stuff, Malone, Monster, Young Guns II, Pearl Harbor, and Judge Dredd – though more recently he’s become better known for his work on television, playing Catherine Willows’ father Sam on CSI and the country vet Hershel on The Walking Dead. Scott Wilson turns 70 today.
