You probably don’t know him by his face or his name, but if you watched monster movies in the 80’s, then odds are good that you know Kevin Peter Hall. At 7’2, Hall excelled at basketball during his high school years, which earned him a scholarship to George Washington University, where he continued to play basketball as well as majoring in Theatrical Arts. Hall made his film debut as a mutant bear in the film Prophecy, and continued to play monster roles throughout his career due to his tall stature. He played the alien in the film Without Warning, the Gorvil in the atrocious anti-Dungeons-and-Dragons propaganda movie Mazes and Monsters, a monster in Monster in the Closet, the sasquatch from Harry and the Hendersons, and, most famously, the Predator in the movies Predator and Predator 2. In addition to these roles (and a role in the film Big Top Pee-wee), Hall did a fair amount of acting in television, appearing on the shows Misfits of Science, Night Court, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and and reprising his role in the short-lived TV series Harry and the Hendersons. It was during his time working on Harry and the Hendersons (the series) that Hall contracted HIV from a contaminated blood transfusion. He died of pneumonia in 1991 at the age of 35.
