While attending the Rhode Island School of Design in 1995, Seth MacFarlane made a ten-minute short film called The Life of Larry and after submitting it to Hanna-Barbera, he wound up getting hired there, which jump-started his career. The characters in this short are a middle-aged slob named Larry Cummings, his wife Lois, his overweight teenage son Milt, and a cynical talking dog named Steve. No points for guessing that a little show named Family Guy has its origins here. In fact, here’s a clip that shows a direct comparison between gags from The Life of Larry which were eventually recycled in Family Guy.
