I hesitate to rank Tommy Flanagan among the greatest “That Guys” of cinema, but this guy is definitely a recognizeable character actor! Flanagan was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and made his living as a DJ while growing up. Returning home from a gig one night, he was attacked by a group who cut his cheeks with a knife, giving him his distinctive scars. In his early twenties he became a member of Robert Carlyle’s Raindog Theatre Company, and in 1992 he made his film debut with a small role in the film Black and Blue. Since then he’s appeared in Braveheart, The Saint, Face/Off, The Game, Plunkett & Macleane, Gladiator, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, AVP: Alien vs. Predator, Sin City, and Smokin’ Aces, and the TV shows 24, Lie to Me, and Sons of Anarchy. Tommy Flanagan turns 47 today.
