Michael Stuhlbarg is rapidly becoming one of my favourite actors working today. Trained at The Juilliard School, Stuhlbarg also studied acting at the University of California, the Vilnius Conservatory in Lithuania, the British American Drama Academy, the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, the University of London, and at the World Centre with Marcel Marceau. Stuhlbarg worked extensively on the stage before moving into film and television, and his early on-screen roles were appearances in the films A Price Above Rubies, Macbeth in Manhattan, and The Grey Zone. As his career progressed, Stuhlbarg began appearing in mainstream TV shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Damages, and Ugly Betty. He played small roles in the films Afterschool, Body of Lies, and Cold Souls, and then was thrust into the limelight by the Coen Bros. when they cast him in the starring role in A Serious Man. More recently, he’s had a long-standing secondary role on Boardwalk Empire, and has appeared in the major films Hugo and Men in Black 3. Michael Stuhlbarg turns 44 today.
