Ah, Charlotte Gainsbourg. Few women have traumatized me the way she has. The daughter of British actress Jane Birkin and French singer/songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, Charlotte Gainsbourg grew up surrounded by the entertainment industry. Now, I don’t want to speculate upon the circumstances under which Charlotte Gainsbourg grew up, but you just know that her family life was weird when she released a song with her father titled Lemon Incest in 1984. She made her film debut the same year in the film Paroles et musique, and she has been singing and acting ever since, with some of her more notable film roles including Jane Eyre, The Science of Sleep, and Melancholia. And you wanna know why she traumatized me? She also starred in Antichrist, a film which features some pretty horrible acts, including graphic genital mutilation. I shudder just thinking about it…so thanks for that, Miss Gainsbourg. Charlotte Gainsbourg turns 41 today.
