What?! Now this just isn’t fair. Yesterday’s Celebrity Birthday of the Day was Charlotte Gainsbourg, and I talked about how traumatizing her film Antichrist was to me when I watched it. And now look: today is her co-star Willem Dafore’s birthday! Willem Dafore began his career on the stage, and made the transition to film in 1980 when he was an extra in the film Heaven’s Gate. Some of his early roles include The Hunger, To Live and Die in L.A., and Platoon, and he gained much attention (and stirred up a lot of controversy) when he played Jesus in The Last Temptation of Christ. Other notable Willem Dafoe roles, of which there are many, include Clear and Present Danger, The English Patient, eXistenZ, The Boondock Saints, American Psycho, Shadow of the Vampire, Spider-Man, Auto Focus, Finding Nemo (he voices a character named Gill!), Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Daybreakers, Fantastic Mr. Fox, John Carter, The Boondock Saints II: All Saint’s Day, and…and…Antichrist. Sigh. Mr. Dafoe, I don’t know if that was actually your penis that I saw, but it belonged to your character, so it might as well have been yours. Shudder. But you’re still awesome, dude. Willem Dafoe turns 57 today.
