An idyllic remote Irish fishing village is invaded by enormous bloodsucking tentacled creatures from the sea. With islanders turning up decapitated and drained of blood, the inhabitants learn that the creatures–called Grabbers–are allergic to alcohol, making intoxicated people toxic to eat. Overrun and under attack, the hopeless locals realize that in order to stay alive they’re going to have to band together at the pub and do their best to survive the night.
England had their alien action-comedy fun with Attack the Block, but now it’s time for Ireland to have a shot at it! Grabbers is an indie genre flick from director Jon Wright that has what could well be the best premise of 2012. The only way to fight aliens is to get drunk? Sounds amazing to me! And I have to commend the filmmakers on keeping the aliens largely hidden in this trailer. I wanna know what the Grabbers look like! In other words, I need to see this movie.
Grabbers has been touring the festival circuit to positive reviews, but it doesn’t have an official release date yet. Expect it sometime in late 2012 or early 2013.
