In 1976, ABC aired a made-for-TV movie named Charlie’s Angels, which the network was hoping would function as the pilot episode for a TV series. Of course, the pilot was a hit and Charlie’s Angels turned out to be such a success that it was the fifth-highest rated show on television during its initial season.
