As the Civil War nears its end, President Abraham Lincoln clashes with members of his cabinet over the issue of abolishing slavery.
Don’t misunderstand the title of this post – I think Lincoln is likely to be a solid Spielberg flick, full of sweeping spectacle, gorgeous period detail, and good acting. It’ll probably be a bit schmaltzy, but Daniel Day-Lewis is perfectly cast here. But this trailer stinks, and the thing that bugs me most about it is the speed of the fades that start at 1:15. Everything blinks out so quickly! The trailer also does nothing to distinguish this movie from War Horse in style, and is blatantly pandering to the Academy with its sweeping score. It’s practically its own Oscar highlights reel! But like I said, I’m sure the movie will be fine. I wonder if they’ll address Lincoln’s third hand…
