In the late Qing Dynasty, LIU Jin-xi is a papermaker and father of two sons who lives a seemingly normal life with his family in a remote village. However, the arrival of a detective threatens to tear them apart…
I feel as though I’ve reached the point where I’ve seen enough martial arts films that I no longer get excited about new ones based on action alone. A chop-socky flick has to bring something new along with it in order to impress me. That’s not to say that I don’t love some good martial arts mayhem – it’s just to say that a lot of these movies tend to blend together unless they add a twist to the proceedings. There’s an exception to this rule, however, and that exception is Donnie Yen. I don’t care how generic the movie is – if it features Yen kicking ass and taking names, I’m there. Dragon (also known as Wu Xia and Swordsman previously) doesn’t look outstandingly different in martial arts terms (in spite of what Twitch may say), but damn if Donnie Yen doesn’t look like he’s at the top of his game here. Pow! Biff! Socko!
Dragon comes out on VOD on October 26, 2012 and in theatres November 30, 2012.
