Matt Smith has only been acting professionally since 2003, but he’s already one of the most famous gents in all of nerddom as the result of being cast as the Doctor in the British TV series Doctor Who. Smith’s career started on the stage, performing in plays such as Murder in the Cathedral, Fresh Kills, and The History Boys in London. He made his television debut in 2006’s The Ruby in the Smoke, made for Masterpiece Theatre, and he appeared in the series Party Animals the following year. He made his film debut in 2008 with a small role in In Bruges, and was cast as Doctor Who in 2010. Since then, he’s played the Doctor in two TV series (Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures), a mini-series (Pond Life), four made-for-TV movies, and three video games. He has only appeared in one non-Doctor role since 2010, in the 2012 movie Bert & Dickie. Matt Smith turns 30 today.
