We love to celebrate “That Guy” birthdays on The Back Row, but today we’re celebrating a famous “That Gal” – Cherry Jones! Jones has worked predominantly in theatre for most of her career, but since her TV debut in 1986’s made-for-TV movie O’Malley, she has appeared in a number of notable films and television shows, including The Horse Whisperer, Cradle Will Rock, Erin Brockovich, The Perfect Storm, Frasier, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, The West Wing, The Village, Ocean’s Twelve, Signs, 24, Amelia, The Beaver, New Year’s Eve, and the short-lived series Awake. On top of all this, Jones is a frequent reader of stories on NPR’s Selected Shorts radio program, and won the Tony Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Heiress. She turns 56 today.
