Duncan Jones is a filmmaker who is about to tackle one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, and it’s interesting to think that only a few years ago he was completely unknown in the world of movie making. Jones is the first son of David Bowie, and began his career in the entertainment industry as a cameraman for his father’s 50th birthday party concert, and also as an in-game cinematics director for the game Republic: The Revolution. In 2006, Jones moved into directing commercials for the FCUK fasion label, and in 2009 he made his film debut with the science fiction movie Moon starring Sam Rockwell. Moon was met with much critical acclaim and launched Jones’ career as a director. He followed Moon with another science fiction film in 2011 called Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and was one of the top candidates to reboot the Superman franchise (a job which was passed to Zack Snyder instead). Jones is now slated to make the much-delayed Warcraft movie, which has been kicked around Hollywood for many years. I think it’s safe to say that Duncan Jones is about to explode into mainstream filmmaking! He turns 43 today.
