A bipolar bigoted junkie cop manipulates and hallucinates his way through the festive season in a bid to secure promotion and win back his wife and daughter.
“Excited” is not a word that I would use to describe my attitude towards this new film from writer/director Jon S. Baird, based on the novel by Irvine Welsh (author of Trainspotting), but I’m certainly intrigued. I’m generally a fan of the Bad Lieutenant idea of figures of authority being the most corrupt members of society, but it’s an easy formula to screw up, too. Still, I like McAvoy, the cast is solid, and it looks like there’s some fun debauchery going on. I guess we’ll have to see if Filth ends up not only being the title of this movie, but the descriptor as well.
Filth comes out in the UK on September 27, 2013.
