Much like yesterday’s celebrity birthday girl Phoebe Cates, Heather Langenkamp was an 80s movie icon whose career as an actor petered out sometime during the mid-90s. Langenkamp made her film debut in the 1984 horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street when she was still studying at Stanford, beating out over 200 other candidates for the role, which she reprised in A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors and Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. She has also appeared in the films The Outsiders, Shocker, and The Demolitionist, and on such television shows as Just the Ten of Us, Growing Pains, and JAG. After the mid-1990s, Langenkamp moved more into running a special makeup effects firm with her husband, although she still acts on occasion, most notably in the recent Star Trek Into Darkness. She turns 49 today.
