Well, when a Youtube video has a title like “Sir Ian McKellen’s Lost British Television Debut from 1964 is Found!”, how could I possibly resist posting it? This is indeed Sir Ian’s first appearance in front of the camera at the age of 25 on an episode of the BBC TV series, The Indian Stories of Rudyard Kipling. It was believed that the master tapes of this series were all wiped after their original airing in 1964, but a film recording of one of the master tapes was recently discovered in a private collection, allowing the world to see Sir Ian McKellen back when he had a Vulcan haircut. Incidentally, the other actor in this scene is Joss Ackland, best known for portraying the villains in Lethal Weapon 2 and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
