I usually try to reserve judgment of a film until I at least see the first trailer, and in the case of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s new film Birdman, starring Michael Keaton, this move was definitely to the film’s benefit. Because while the plot synopsis of a former superhero actor going nuts sounds interesting enough, this preview sells the premise incredibly well. Awesome camera work and what looks to be a tour de force performance from Keaton in the lead role combine here with a kickass downbeat version of Gnarles Barkley’s Crazy to create a movie quite unlike everything I was expecting. Needless to say, I’m going to be seeking this one out.
Birdman comes out October 17, 2014.
