I’m going to be hitting the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal this month, and one of the movies playing at the festival that I’m most looking forward to is this one: Cold in July from Stake Land director Jim Mickle. Not only is this trailer great, not only does it have a good cast, but it’s based on a novel by Joe Lansdale. Who is that? Why, only the writer of Bubba Ho-tep, one of the greatest movies ever made. But for all that Bubba Ho-tep was campy and tongue-in-cheek, this looks like some serious Cormac McCarthy business.
